It all started with a MacBook.
During my college years I worked at an Apple Store as a Visual Specialist. I once asked the lead why we always set screens to 90 degrees since you can't read anything at that angle. He had me stand in front of it and said "Okay, what would be the first thing you would do here?". I tilted the screen and I was introduced to the Mac all over again. Placing the Mac at this position forced the user to interact with it. Physical touch creates the first connection to the path towards ownership.
That's when it all clicked and I learned User Experience is about providing intent and guiding a person through a new world.
After that I never stopped thinking about interactions and experiences. I add animations and flourishes to add life to otherwise boring bits of information. I create flat and easily identifiable patterns to keep this inevitably complicated life, simple.
Today, I am taking both my military and design experience to lead design teams that can replicate the achievements I've already done at Adorama, and in the process teach me how to be a better at serve others in the design community.
I believe that the great products aren't just visually stunning. They are emotionally connective. The best ones always have a balance between having a distinctive identity while being invisible enough to avoid being intrusive.
The process to create these works should always be interactive, collaborative, and infinitely flexible for the future. Let's create something beautiful together.

The VIP360 Program includes three core benefits that our user research indicated that our customers value the most. Free 2 day shipping, included accidental warranties, and extended return periods. In order to deliver this, we integrated ShopRunner for shipping, NewLeaf for warranties, and created a new return flow for our customers. Because there are so many features packed into one premium service, I built the VIP experience into the most significant decision points of the purchase process. In each area, the customer is invited to learn about all the features in a well designed landing page that communicates all of the core benefits.

Adorama Rewards is an extension of the customer focused feature set we built out in 2018. Based on our analytics we recognized that having return customers was the greatest area of opportunity to increase conversion. As the UX lead I worked with AnnexCloud to drive additional value to our frequent customers by rewarding them with points for their purchases. I designed this integration to allow customers to track the points they have earned, earn points by interacting with Adorama, and spend their points in a seamless way by introducing them into our payment methods.

I first worked on the first iteration of Adorama VIP360 in 2016 and because of significant technical hurdles we couldn't deliver the feature to all the items on Adorama. In 2018 we integrated ShopRunner to create a better solution. With our partnership we would bring value to ShopRunner customers by offering to them benefits for VIP360 at a discount while fortifying the offerings of our VIP360 program with a feature like ShopRunner that members can use at other e-retailers. This process was tricky to communicate because there were various bins of users. Additionally we were building a marketing pipeline to attract each of these segments. There was very little coding done on this project. Since most of the integration was pulled via JS from ShopRunner. My biggest challenge was communicating the benefits and difference of VIP360 and ShopRunner and creating automations that would market a unique solution each user base.

TipCoin was coined (Pun Intended) during a hackathon to create a fee-free tipping solution for restaurants and bars. Many who have worked in the restaurant industry are familiar with the fact that credit card processing companies take anywhere from 3-5% as a fee from the total bill. The benefit of BitCoin is that we can avoid these transaction fees on small transactions. I designed TipCoin in a day to match two personas. The consumer who is offering a tip in the form of Bitcoin and the retailer who has turned the device into a digital tip jar so they can receive the Bitcoins as a tip. TipCoin is simply a display of my strong understanding of not just the behaviors and user patterns of the retail industry but also an example of how I can bring technical value as UX designer to it.

Wave App is a social app I created in 2014 to practice using Sketch. Just when YikYak was gaining traction, I loved the concept of sharing your thoughts locally and anonymously. However, I felt the biggest feature that was lacking is the ability for that idea or concept to proliferate as it gained traction locally. The concept of wave is to make you famous overnight. As your posts gain more up votes, they will be shared with a larger geographic area. Eventually once you reach a large volume of traction and fans for your work, you'll have the option to reveal yourself and transfer the gained social following to your other accounts like Twitter and Instagram. This evolving way to interact with the app allows you to ride the social "wave" of popularity that your post may have. Even though the design language and shapes are aging, I still love the color combinations and the feel of it.
Close ProjectImpossible Cities is a local band. The lead singer and guitarist is a childhood friend of mine so I took this opportunity to expand outside of my comfort zone and create landing page for this band that has an aesthetic that is unique to what I would normally design. I was able to use techniques like image masking that I would not be able to implement in web designs otherwise. The page is no longer up but you can see the original mock up below!

During my 5 years at Adorama I've had the pleasure of working directly with many major brands to create micro sites to promote specific experiences. Some of these sites are premiere award winning landing pages like our Top Photographer series that included a live stream component. Others like the adapter finder and the DJI drone page were born out my own initiative and wish to make a cool experience that solved a problem I was having myself. However, most of them are sites created with less than a 24 hour turn around period that included embargoed details of products designed to generate pre-sales. So with the help of my coworker we even created a default framework with brand specific color schemes in order to be able to push these out quickly. From 2015-2017 almost all the micro sites were completed by either me or ONE other co worker!

The main request I get for my freelance work is to stand up a WordPress site. However, I believe my crowning achievement is being able to stand up the third version of Adorama's learning center. This initiative involved many integrations and custom plugins with services like Vimeo, and Eventbrite. It also is a single WordPress site that has many different brands under it like ALC, AdoramaTV, AdoramaGOV and more! Of course the biggest hurdle is educating the content creators to hold to the design guidelines created for the custom theme. So please bear in mind when viewing my WordPress work that final result of how some of these articles appear are far from the ideal layout that I would have wanted during its creation.
